Atmosphere

Remote, scenic, and strongly nature-focused. This is the kind of place people visit for the beach itself, the color of the water, and the feeling of being out in the marine park.

What to Expect

There are two Zapatilla islands, both located within the Bastimentos National Marine Park. They are especially popular for snorkeling, swimming, short walks, and spending part of the day on a very photogenic beach.

Some sides of the islands are more exposed to the open sea, and currents can sometimes be noticeable on those sides.

Good to Know

The islands are uninhabited and are usually visited through organized or private boat tours. There are no developed facilities, so it is important to bring everything needed for a beach day.

This is a protected area and an important nesting habitat for sea turtles and other wildlife, so all rubbish and personal items should always be taken back when leaving.
