Travel by boat to Almirante, followed by a scenic drive towards the Costa Rican border, passing banana plantations and local villages.
At the river, you begin with an introduction to the manatee conservation project, including a short presentation to understand these unique animals and their ecosystem.
You then explore the river by boat, surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife, including birds, sloths, and monkeys.
At the observation platform, you’ll spend around 2 hours watching manatees in complete silence. As they are very sensitive to sound, a calm and respectful environment is essential. You may see them feeding near the surface, although visibility in the water is limited.
After the observation, the tour continues to a nearby beach where you can visit sea turtle conservation facilities and see an area with many iguanas.
A lunch box with local products is available as an optional add-on ($12 per person).
This is a rare and sensitive wildlife experience — patience and silence are key. With Kawi Voyage, the focus is on respectful observation and real conservation, not just quick sightings.
