Water Transport
Getting almost anywhere outside Isla Colón in Bocas del Toro means a water taxi, and prices are usually set per route rather than negotiated.
Boats run more frequently during the day and taper off noticeably after dark, so return trips need to be timed rather than assumed. Routes to Bastimentos and Solarte run often enough that waiting rarely takes more than fifteen or twenty minutes at the main dock.
Water taxis are the main way to get between the islands in Bocas del Toro: from Bocas Town to Carenero, Red Frog Beach, Almirante and more. Fares run from about $1 to $25 per person depending on the destination.
Ferry Bocas is the main ferry connection for passengers, vehicles, and cargo between Almirante and Isla Colón. It is especially useful for guests travelling with a car, motorbike, bicycle, very large luggage, or goods to transport. For passengers without a vehicle or bulky luggage, a water taxi from Almirante to Isla Colón is usually much faster and simpler.
