The nursery entrance
Panama's national flower is an orchid that looks like it has a small white dove folded inside it, and it's endangered enough that finding one in the wild takes serious luck. At APROVACA you walk up to one in a greenhouse. The rest of the visit is a working conservation project run by a small nonprofit, several hundred plants across more than a hundred native and regional species, kept going on entry fees and sponsorships.
Set expectations before the gate: this is a nursery doing conservation work, not a landscaped botanical garden. Shade tables, greenhouses, handwritten labels. The guided tour, about 30 minutes, is what makes the visit, and the guides know their plants. Most of it happens in Spanish, but the key points land even if your Spanish doesn't go far.
The centerpiece is the Holy Ghost orchid greenhouse, where individual plants are sponsored by donors to fund their care. How much is flowering depends entirely on the month. The green season generally shows the most blooms, and a dry-season visit can be more foliage than flower. If flowers are the whole point for you, ask at the gate what's in bloom before paying.
